We have been absolutely delighted with the work Hewitt & Son have carried out at our school.  They built a 'trim trail' on the school field which is a fantastic addition to our outdoor play facilities which the children absolutely love.  Simon and his team were really helpful, very professional and we would not hesitate in recommending them to other schools/childcare settings.

Many thanks for the recent work which you have completed at our school. By my reckoning this has been the 10th project that you have worked on in our school in the last two years. 

This most recent project, the creation of a set of large planters which the children can use to plant fruit and vegetables is for me the most exciting. This is the one which will allow our pupils to change some of the ways they think and learn. So many of our pupils have so little understanding about their environment in the broadest sense, and I am certain that your structures will mean that they can grow and cultivate their own produce. Children will be able to sell, market and hopefully eat their own harvests.

I wanted to take this opportunity of thanking you for the work you have done in school and for being so thoroughly obliging and easy to work with. Even when Education Leeds Finance Department has not been forthcoming with payment for your invoices!

But seriously, it is very refreshing to work with a business who can be relied upon to keep to timescales, to keep us informed of developments and to be so accommodating. I think there are many contractors who work in schools but who do not understand the need for a different kind of professionalism when working in an education setting. When you are working in school I can be absolutely certain that you will have the health and safety of our pupils at the heart of what you do, and that you will understand the need to be flexible during the school day. You and your staff will be sensitive and friendly to our pupils, and many of them now recognize and talk to you.

The quality of all the work which you have done in our school is superb and we regularly receive comments from visitors, and parents about how good the work is. We have absolute confidence that all your work will be done to a high standard and that no corners will be cut. ( Unless that was intended- pardon the pun!) Your advice has always been very wise and you have not always offered the cheapest solution but I am sure that you have offered the best long term, high quality suggestion. As our school is on quite an exposed high location, I am sure that we will already have put much of your outdoor work through considerable tests and it is clear it will stand the test of time very effectively.

I must also pass comment on the courteous, pleasant and patient nature of each of the men working for Hewitt and Son’s. We have always been impressed by the attitude of yourself and the others, who must at times feel impatient by the requests that school staff make. For example when I recently asked if some shavings could be saved, I was not asked to collect them myself, but instead had a box full swept up for me. Similarly, off cuts of wood have been saved and bagged. It seems that nothing is too much trouble for you or Jonny, and that means a lot to our school. On more than one occasion we have been grateful to make use of an extra pair of hands to help us lift or carry objects in school – like a birthday cake! We are very grateful for the incredible service we are offered, and the additional support which our school has received from you. Thank you.

To sum up, from Hewitt and Son’s, we always receive high quality workmanship, with excellent service and 100% reliability. What more could we ask for?As a school with a very happy and positive ethos, we feel that we notice when we deal with others who work with a similar belief and that is perhaps why the partnership between yourselves and our school works so well. I only hope it continues and that you will be involved in the next stages of development at Valley View.
